Eating Disorders
Therapy in this area can cover traditional eating disorder diagnoses, as well as disordered eating (restricting, purging, binging) and body image issues. A HAES (health at every size) and mindfulness/DBT skills approach is used for this area, with therapy targeting some of the issues that fueled eating disorder behaviors. Collaboration with your dietician may also be required (and strongly encouraged); an initial consultation to also rule out any need for a higher level of care will also be required. Eating disorders are commonly comorbid with other diagnoses (OCD, depression, anxiety, substance use disorders, etc.), though skills to target behaviors in these areas are often similar and helpful for optimal functioning with other diagnoses.
Whether you have recently graduated from a higher level of care, are needing support with your ED (eating disorder), or have been struggling with lapses/relapses, individual therapy with a focus on ED may help in managing your behaviors, identifying your cues and triggers, providing accountability, and also providing a safe space to learn skills as you manage your ED and other life stressors. While you may struggle with wanting to simply live a “normal” life, therapy can help you manage your ED, as you adjust to a mindful eating approach, body acceptance, or overall wellness in your daily life.
