Individual Therapy
While individual therapy can help you learn coping skills to manage your mood, it can also be a safe space for you to process and explore past relationship issues, family issues, toxic work environments, and the like. Utilizing a mix of CLA (Collaborative Language Approach) and DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy), individual therapy is approached from a position of curiosity and is seen as a collaborative process between client and clinician. This means that feedback to your therapist is encouraged so that you can receive care that is targeted and specific to your needs.
Initial sessions will begin by gathering your family history, relationship history, and history of your presenting problem (why you are seeking therapy to begin with). If you have been in therapy before, we will also discuss what has worked for you in the past, and what hasn’t. If it’s your first time in therapy, expectations and goals will be discussed and reviewed.
Weekly sessions are recommended when you first begin therapy, with the option to step down to bi-weekly (every other week) sessions once progress has been made. Progress will be determined by reviewing your initial goals for treatment; this will also provide an opportunity for you to revise or renew any goals. Concrete, measurable goals can also be discussed with your therapist in order to further measure your progress.
Homework can also be assigned at the end of each session. This may be in the form of a question or thought to further consider and unpack in your next session or may be a skill to work on and practice until the next session. If you are interested in receiving homework, please let your therapist know!
